With our focus on "far western suburbs"of Sydney affected by drought, we decided to focus on the landscapes of Broken Hill and use these images as inspiration for our landscape. Specific aspects of the Broken Hill landscape that we noticed and want to feature in our main body piece are:
Hills in the background
Flat landscape
Red, earthy landscape
Minimal vegetation
We started wet felting our base colours into large flat rectagular pieces felt by layering multiple cross-hatched pieces of wool and scrubbing it using detergent and stainless steel-scourers. We spent a solid 2 periods just scrubbing and "agitating" the fibres of the wool together (was literally a workout) and our hands were so pruny afterwards😂.
We can say that this is definitely not one of our proudest works haha, but at least it's a start!
