The Basics of Felting

So after all the planning for the cow, we have finally decided on the primary medium of WOOOL! especially since we wanted be really involved with our industry and the products that are made from these sheeps. Check out our final plan on the previos blog post in which felting is involved. So what is felting?

Felting is when the fibres of wool are agitated—essentially moved back and forth—until they lock together in a tight bond.

There are two methods of felting

  • Wet felting: In the wet felting process, hot water is applied to layers of wool while repeated agitation and compression cause the fibres to hook together or weave together into a single piece of fabric.

  • Needle felting: In the needle felting process the fibres of the wool is combined together through the compaction of the needle stabbing through the fibres of wool.
