The cow stands in the middle of the courtyard. People are walking past as if nothing is there. An elephant in the room.
We covered the plastic covering of the cow in powerful words that are related to our topic, “Feeding, clothing and powering a hungry nation is a shared responsibility.” Words such as, climate change, crisis, help and hungry. We used a thick brushstroke, in bold colours - red and black. These strong words written in capital letters are demanding the attention of the viewers. It is NOT an insignificant issue. This elephant (or cow) demands to be addressed.
As the wrapping was stripped off, and the clear surface of the fibreglass is revealed. This represents the peeling back of the layers to reveal a clean slate. The problems have been exposed already, this is a call to action for EVERYONE to contribute to the resolution of these issues.
The wrapping appears to be peeling away by itself but in reality, this is a shared effort. The anonymity of the person/people who are unwrapping the cow links back to the idea that people need to work behind the scenes, full time to ensure that action is being taken. Everyone needs to participate, as sustainability is a SHARED RESPONSIBILITY.
